For over a decade, Capitolium Art has been organising design auctions, presenting around 5,000 lots each year. Across 16 annual auctions – whether traditional, online or virtual – valuable pieces are offered, representing the best of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and twentieth-century design movements.
Furniture, decorative objects, and design pieces – mostly sourced from private collections – consistently achieve excellent results, both in terms of volume sold and total value realised, thanks to the expertise and experience of our specialists. This is Capitolium Art’s foremost objective: to offer even the most discerning and passionate design collectors original works, with verified provenance and unquestionable value.

Established in 2011, the Department of Design and Twentieth-Century Decorative Arts is distinguished by its meticulous research and careful selection of works, ranging from the earliest expressions of Art Nouveau and Art Deco to the most recent trends, featured in our design auctions. The care and attention dedicated to each piece reflect the department’s high level of expertise and passion, led by Luigi Bosa, a prominent figure in the Italian design scene. Coordinators Marta Plebani and Gaia Barbieri skilfully manage the department’s activities, contributing to its strong reputation and enhancing its offerings.
The department’s auctions offer a curated view of the finest in Italian twentieth-century design, while also reaching beyond national borders to include masterpieces from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Japan. Every work is rigorously selected, with particular emphasis on provenance and historical relevance, ensuring both transparency and quality.
Alongside iconic furnishings by major designers, the department is known for its focus on what are often referred to as minor arts – such as ceramics and Murano glass – which we consider true highlights of our catalogues.
This continuous pursuit of excellence allows the department to meet the expectations of a refined and demanding clientele, always seeking unique pieces that tell the story of design through the twentieth century and beyond.
The Department of Design and Decorative Arts of the Twentieth Century selects furnishing elements attributable to the more or less well-known names of Italian and international design of the twentieth century. Particular attention is also paid to ceramics and Murano glass.
Our specialists are always available to provide free and confidential valuations and appraisals.
